Dee had four carries for four yards, one reception for seven yards and one kickoff return for 21 yards during the preseason. All of his action came at Jacksonville (8/10) before he was placed on injured reserve (9/2) with tendon and ligament damage in his left ankle.
College Career
Dee was recruited by Syracuse as a quarterback and, after moving to running back after his redshirt freshman year, ended his career ranked second all-time in school history with 28 rushing touchdowns and fifth all-time with 2,626 yards rushing. A first team All-Big East selection as a senior in 2001, Dee carried 172 times for 1,031 yards and nine touchdowns to post the fifth highest single-season rushing total in school history and become the first Syracuse player since 1989 to surpass the 1,000 yard rushing mark. He also registered 14 receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. In the season finale versus Rutgers, Dee amassed 239 yards rushing and three touchdowns, the most yards ever by an Orangeman in the Carrier Dome and the second-highest single-game rushing total in Syracuse history. Receiving occasional action at quarterback in addition to starting at running back as a junior in 1999, he led the Orangemen with 145 carries and 741 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns. He also registered 13 receptions for 52 yards. As a sophomore in 1998, Dee contributed 58 carries for 299 yards and seven touchdowns and two catches for 11 yards. Switching from quarterback to running back during spring drills as a redshirt freshman in 1997, Dee played in all 13 games and earned freshman All-America honorable mention from Football News after leading the Orangemen with eight rushing touchdowns and finishing second on the team with 555 yards on 118 carries, the second highest rushing total for a freshman in school history. Dee also caught five passes for 53 yards.
